Some might call it semantics which is the study of meaning of words or expressions and how people use them in everyday language. Jesus is probably the one who should be credited for coining the term Born-again Christian. See there was man that Jesus met in the Gospel according to Luke in chapter three. Nicodemus was a respected teacher of the Jewish faith. Jesus told Nicodemus that to see the Kingdom of God a person must be ‘born-again.’ Imagine Nicodemus scratching his head and asking himself, “what is this man saying? “ Nicodemus wasn’t quite grasping the concept. He questioned Jesus by asking him, “How can an old man go back into his mother’s womb and be born again?” Jesus teaches the teacher, Nicodemus, that he wasn’t saying that a person had to go back into their mother’s womb, but rather they had to be born-again spiritually.
To be a Christian, one has to be born-again. To be born-again means that one has asked Jesus Christ into their life, asking for forgiveness, and turning from the ways of the world. That’s what we believe here at CenterPointe Church. Jesus sacrificed everything by dying on the cross and God raised him back from the dead so that every person would have the opportunity to be born-again. He is the center of everything and in Him we live, move, and have our being.
